NeighborShare Pty Ltd ("NeighborShare", "we", "us", "our") operates the NeighborShare platform, including the website at neighborshare.au and the NeighborShare mobile application. We are based in Sydney, NSW, Australia.

2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: Name, email address, phone number, date of birth
- Identity verification (KYC): Government-issued ID document, facial recognition data — required for all users to maintain platform safety
- Location data: Your suburb and approximate location (used to show nearby tools and connect you with neighbours)
- Payment information: Processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your full card number.
- Tool listings: Photos, descriptions, and availability information you provide when listing tools
- Inspection videos: Short videos recorded at tool pickup and return for condition verification
- Transaction data: Booking history, deposit records, insurance records, reviews
- Device and usage data: App version, device type, crash logs — used to improve the app
- Communications: Messages sent via in-app chat between borrowers and lenders
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the NeighborShare platform
- To verify your identity and maintain community safety
- To process bookings, payments, deposits, and insurance
- To calculate and display your credit rating (AAA/AA/A)
- To enable AI-assisted tool condition assessment at pickup and return
- To send booking confirmations, reminders, and service notifications
- To investigate disputes, damage claims, and policy violations
- To comply with Australian legal and regulatory requirements
- To improve platform features, safety, and performance
4. Sharing Your Information
We share information only where necessary:
- Other users: Your name, rating, and listing details are visible to other platform users. Your full contact details are only shared after a confirmed booking.
- Payment processor: Stripe Payments Australia Pty Ltd, for secure payment handling
- Insurance partners: Licensed Australian insurers, for policy activation and claims processing
- Identity verification: Third-party KYC providers for ID and face verification
- Law enforcement: Where required by Australian law or court order
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on servers located in Australia. We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Inspection videos and images are stored in secure cloud storage with access controls.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. After account deletion, transaction records are retained for 7 years to comply with Australian financial regulations. Inspection videos are retained for 12 months after the relevant transaction closes.
6. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to retention obligations)
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au

7. Location Data
The app requests location permission to show tools near you and to match Panic Mode requests. Precise location is only used during active sessions. We do not track your location continuously in the background.
8. Camera & Video
The app requests camera permission for tool inspection videos at pickup and return. Videos are uploaded to secure storage and are only accessible to the parties involved in the booking and to NeighborShare staff for dispute resolution.
9. Children's Privacy
NeighborShare is not intended for use by persons under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us immediately.
10. Cookies & Analytics
Our website uses cookies and analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site. You can manage cookie preferences via your browser settings. The mobile app does not use advertising cookies.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
